Small positive report for once.
The app I use has a safety thing built in where you can tell it where you are going and when, and it pings you partway through, and if you do not answer it messages a contact you have picked. I have always ignored it because it felt a bit clinical and also a bit like admitting something.
Used it on Saturday, mostly because my usual friend was away and unreachable.
It was fine. Better than fine, actually. Took two minutes to set up, the check in buzzed about an hour in and I tapped it under the table while she was ordering, and the whole time I was noticeably less distracted than I usually am on a first meet. Which I had not expected, I thought it would make me more aware of the risk rather than less.
Not saying it replaces telling an actual human. Obviously an app notification is not going to come and find me.
Does anyone else use these? And has anyone ever had one actually matter, or are we all just tapping a button for the calming effect?
