turned every notification off and it made me a better person

once_a_day_dee Opened it #1

Two months ago I turned off every notification. No badges, no sounds, nothing on the lock screen. The only way I find out anybody has messaged me is by opening it deliberately, which I now do once in the evening.

Expected to feel out of the loop. Instead the whole thing got calmer. I am not checking at traffic lights. I am not doing the thing where you reply with three words because you are halfway through something else.

Fewer conversations, noticeably longer ones, and two people I would probably have lost to a distracted answer at eight in the morning.

Anyone else run it this way? Or does going quiet cost you the people who wanted a quick back and forth?

What the playbook says about this

Everything on this board is about the app itself rather than the people in it: what a badge is actually checking, what the queue does to your morning, and why the door back in is never locked. A good share of it turns out to be about which app you picked.
