Context so nobody worries: my partner and I are open, the app is known and fine, this is a settings post, not a confession.
Anyway. We’re driving to her mother’s place on Sunday, my phone is doing the directions, mounted on the dash. Notification drops in over the map, full preview, very flirty first line from a match, name and all, large font, eye level, while her mom is on speakerphone asking about parking.
Nobody did anything wrong and it was still deeply awkward. Partner started laughing, her mom asked what was funny, I nearly missed the exit.
The thing is, the awkwardness wasn’t the message existing. She knows the app exists. It was the phone announcing it at a moment neither of us picked, to an audience of technically three. Fixed previews that same evening.
What I’m asking the board: what’s your setup for the phone-as-shared-object problem? Directions, music, showing someone a photo. The phone is public space half the time even when your life is nobody’s business. Curious what settings and habits people landed on, open households or otherwise.
