I am terrible at this and it has been bothering me for a while.

When a conversation is not going anywhere, or I have realised I am not interested, I just stop replying. Every time. I know exactly how that feels on the other end because it has been done to me plenty.

The problem is that I sit down to write something honest and everything I come up with is either so vague it is insulting, or so specific it sounds like a review.

What do you actually write? And does anybody give a reason, or is that just handing somebody something to argue with?

What the playbook says about this

Matching threads split into two questions: what to say, and what a silence means. The answer to both is usually further up the profile than the message box, which is why the bio and the tag stack are here alongside the etiquette.
