Slow September, cheap decision. I turned on the paid tier for a month, mostly to see the full list of people who had liked me instead of that blurred grid the app keeps waving at you.

Eleven people. That is the whole list. And four of them I had already scrolled past at some point, for reasons that were still reasons when I looked again. Two had no bio. One had liked me eight months ago and has not opened the app since, judging by the last active line.

I am not even angry, it is just a very strange feeling. I had built the blurred grid up into this waiting room full of people who might be interested, and it turned out to be a corridor with a few folding chairs in it.

Question for people who have paid: did yours look like this? And is there any version of the paid features that actually changes the experience, or is the whole tier just selling you the answer to a question the app made up in the first place?

What the playbook says about this

Everything on this board is about the app itself rather than the people in it: what a badge is actually checking, what the queue does to your morning, and why the door back in is never locked. A good share of it turns out to be about which app you picked.
