cablecarkink Opened it #1

Matched with a verified profile last week. Little blue tick, real-looking photos, the works. Conversation was word for word the same opener a different verified profile sent me in February. Same odd compliment, same pivot. Reported both, but it got me wondering what the badge is even checking.

I’d assumed verified meant a human at the app looked at something. Now I think it means a selfie matched the photos one time, through an automated check, and that’s the whole ceremony. Which filters out the laziest fakes, I guess, but a motivated scammer can hold a phone up same as anyone.

Do you all treat the badge as a green light? I’m realizing I gave verified profiles a discount on my usual caution and I don’t think they earned it. Curious whether that’s just me.

What the playbook says about this

Everything on this board is about the app itself rather than the people in it: what a badge is actually checking, what the queue does to your morning, and why the door back in is never locked. A good share of it turns out to be about which app you picked.
