Planting the flag: first meets from the app are coffee. Daylight, one hour, everyone gets themselves home. I will be taking questions and incorrect opinions below.
The case. One, I want to meet the actual person, and the actual person is who shows up before drinks do their smoothing. If we’re compatible sober at 2pm, evenings will take care of themselves forever after. Two, an hour of coffee has a natural exit built in. Cups end, nobody negotiates a second round out of politeness. Three, it’s cheap, so neither of us is performing gratitude at a price point. Four, if it’s going badly it’s over soon, and if it’s going well, ending on a high note with plans is the best possible cliffhanger.
I’ve run this policy for two years. Every meet that mattered survived being a coffee first. The ones that supposedly needed dim lighting and a cocktail to work, I promise you, were not going to work.
The board may now tell me I’m rigid. I’ll be here, hydrated and correct.
