what do you actually tell a friend before you go and meet someone

I have read the phrase tell a friend where you are going about four hundred times on this board and I have never once actually done it, mostly because I do not know what it means in practice.

Do you send them the profile? A name? Which cafe? What time you expect to be done? Do they check in with you, or do you check in with them? And what are they supposed to do with any of it if you go quiet, realistically, on a Saturday evening?

Also, and this is the bit I keep getting stuck on, I do not really have a friend I have told about any of this. So the conversation is not just about tonight, it is about explaining a whole area of my life, and I keep deciding I would rather just be careful about the venue instead.

Meeting someone on Sunday. Coffee, daytime, busy street, all the usual. Would like to do the last bit properly rather than skip it again. What does yours actually look like?

What the playbook says about this

The threads here agree on more than they let on: a short call first, a public place second, and your own way home. The one nobody argues about is the third, which is what you hand over and when.
