Met someone on Saturday. Nice person, straightforwardly nice, no red flags, conversation was easy enough, we had things in common. Ninety minutes, coffee, then a walk to the station.
And I felt nothing at all. Not dislike. Nothing. Like meeting a pleasant colleague from another department.
Now I am sitting here feeling like I have failed some test. Everything was right. We had talked for weeks and it had been good. The profile was accurate, she was exactly who she said she was, and she was kind about the awkward bits.
She has messaged since, warmly, and I have not answered because I do not know what to say that is not either a lie or unkind.
Two questions really. Is a flat first meeting worth a second one, in anyone’s actual experience? And how do you say no to somebody who has done nothing wrong without it being horrible for both of you?
