Confession first: at one point I had accounts on four different apps at once. Not because I had a strategy, just because every time one went quiet I signed up for another rather than fixing anything.

What that actually looked like day to day was four inboxes and no dating. I would open one, skim, feel behind, open the next, feel behind again. Somebody would send me a nice message and I would leave it two days because answering properly was work and I had three other queues waiting. I was busy and going nowhere.

Deleted three of them in March. Kept the one where the people seemed most like people. Rewrote the profile properly for the first time since I made it, because for once there was only one profile to write.

Since then: fewer matches by a long way, more conversations, and two actual meets, which is two more than the previous six months produced. I am not claiming this is a law of nature. It might just be that the one I kept happens to be the busy one where I live.

So, is concentration actually the thing, or did I get lucky? People running several at once, how do you keep it from turning into admin?

What the playbook says about this

Everything on this board is about the app itself rather than the people in it: what a badge is actually checking, what the queue does to your morning, and why the door back in is never locked. A good share of it turns out to be about which app you picked.
