New one on me. Someone I have been chatting with for about a week sent a voice note instead of a message. Forty seconds, nothing dramatic, just answering something I had asked and then getting distracted by her dog halfway through.
I sat there holding my phone like it was a summons. Could not play it on the bus because I had no headphones. Played it at home and then genuinely did not know whether the correct reply was a voice note back, which felt like a big step, or a text, which felt like refusing.
It was also, and I want to be fair here, the first time she has felt like an actual person rather than a very good writer. Which is either the point or a warning, I cannot tell yet.
Are these normal now? Do you send them, and if someone sends you one first, is a typed answer rude?
