Small thing that has bothered me all week.

Someone I had been chatting to for a few days made a joke about which part of town I live in. He got it right. Not a wild guess either, he named the area and then said something about the park.

I never told him. My profile does not say. What he had was the distance readout, and apparently he had noticed it change over a few days as he moved around and worked backwards from that. He told me this cheerfully, like it was a fun fact about himself.

I have looked at my settings since and the app is showing distance to what feels like an unhelpfully precise degree. There is no obvious way to fuzz it, only to turn location off entirely, which then makes the whole thing not work.

Two questions. Is there a way to be findable enough for the app to function without being findable to that level? And is my reaction proportionate, or is knowing someone’s neighbourhood just normal in a city?

What the playbook says about this

Close calls with one shape. Something on a screen said more than the member did, and none of it needed a hacker. The playbook has a page for most of these and one that covers the lot in the order the settings actually matter.
