She tapped one button and eight weeks of writing ceased to exist
- Looking for
- somebody who says the ending out loud before they press anything
- Experience
- Seven years, three dynamics, one of them still going.
- Around
- the west, Sydney
Eight weeks of daily messages, careful ones, the kind where you are both slowly working out whether this is real. Then one afternoon the conversation was simply not there. No argument, no last message, no name in the list. The app does not even tell you it happened. You just find a gap where a person used to be and spend a fortnight wondering if it was something you wrote.
I want to be clear that she was entitled to do it. Anybody is entitled to leave anything at any time, and nobody owes a stranger an explanation. What I am describing is not a grievance. It is a design decision, made by a company, that turns leaving into something silent and total, and it has made a lot of people on this board considerably more guarded than they would otherwise be.
Forty two, out west, dominant, seven years in, three dynamics, one of which has been running for four years now on one evening a week.
What I ask for is small. If you decide against me, say so. One line. I will not argue, I will not ask why, and I will not write again.
What I want otherwise is an ongoing arrangement with clear terms and a real rhythm. Not looking for a pen pal. Not looking for anybody who cannot meet for two months for reasons that keep changing. Not looking to be somebody's evening reading.
