There were four words and I picked the fourth because it was the honest one
- Looking for
- somebody who will not need me to be certain by next month
- Experience
- None. Six weeks on the app and a great many open tabs.
- Around
- the west, Sydney
The sign up would not let me past until I chose one of four words to sit above my photograph. I read them all several times. Three of them described things I might be and one of them described exactly where I actually am, which is that I have downloaded something and not decided anything. So I picked that one and I have left it there.
Thirty four, out west, no experience of any kind. What I notice is that the honest word is treated as a temporary condition. People write to me as though I am in a waiting room, and the first question is almost always which of the other three I am going to become. I do not know. I might be here for a year.
What I would like is to talk to somebody who has been doing this a long time and is not bored by a person without answers. Specifically I want to know what the ordinary weeks look like, what people do when it stops working, and how anybody makes a decision about any of it.
I am reasonably sociable, I ask a lot of questions, and I am aware that a profile carrying the honest word attracts a particular kind of attention. It is not usually predatory. It is usually somebody who wants to be the one who resolves me, which is flattering for about a day and then quietly insulting.
Not looking for anybody who opens with a list of what they would do to me. Not looking for a person who has decided what I am on the basis of two messages. Not looking to meet anywhere private, now or in six months.
