I live outside the city and I do the travelling. All of it. That is not a complaint and it is not a favour I am banking. It is simply the arrangement that works, because I have a car and a driveway and nobody else in the house, and most of the people I have been involved with have had none of those things.
What I would ask is that it gets noticed once, out loud, early. Not repaid. Noticed. The people who have done that have all turned out to be the ones who were careful about everything else, and the two who treated it as a service that came with the man were both hard work in other ways as well.
Fifty two, out towards Lanarkshire, dominant, thirteen years in, two arrangements and both of them were with people who lived in town and neither of them ever came out here more than twice a year.
The app makes all of this worse by showing a distance in miles and then burying me at the bottom of everybody's queue for being at the edge of it. So I write on boards instead, where the distance can be explained rather than displayed.
What I want is a fortnightly arrangement with a proper shape, standing expectations that hold between visits, and reporting in the weeks between. Not looking for anybody who wants to see how it goes. Not looking for a person who cannot say plainly what they can and cannot reach.
