I have never once let a conversation die quietly and I never will
- Looking for
- one person who will do me the same courtesy
- Experience
- Eight years, three arrangements, all ended in conversation.
- Around
- the city centre, Glasgow
Every conversation I have ended on this app, I have ended out loud. One line, no reason, no argument. I have done it perhaps sixty times in eight years and it has never once produced anything worse than a short sulk.
I have received the same courtesy maybe four times. The standard here is to go quiet, and then, if pressed, to be busy, and then to be gone. It is the single most complained about thing on every board in this city and almost everybody doing the complaining also does it.
Thirty four, the city centre, switch, eight years in. Three arrangements and all of them ended in a conversation, which is not because I am admirable but because I would rather have one bad hour than three bad weeks of somebody wondering what they did.
What I want is an ongoing arrangement running both ways in time, agreed properly, with a fixed evening and a review every few months. And an understanding, agreed at the start rather than assumed, that whoever wants out of it says so in words, on the day they decide, without a fortnight of building up to it.
Not looking for anybody who avoids conflict by disappearing. Not looking for a person who needs an explanation for everything. Not looking to be managed.
