I skip every face I know, which most weeks is most of the queue
- Looking for
- somebody I have genuinely never met, which is getting difficult
- Experience
- Ten years, two arrangements, both of them years long.
- Around
- the south side, Glasgow
I have lived here my whole life and I skip everybody I recognise, which some weeks is more than half of what the app puts in front of me. Not people I know well. People I have met once, people from a job eight years ago, the man who used to go out with a friend of mine.
That is not caution about being seen. Everybody who matters to me knows roughly what I am. It is that I do not want the beginning of something to be complicated by a shared history neither of us chose, and I have twice ignored my own rule and twice regretted it.
Forty four, the south side, switch, ten years in.
The upshot is that the useful part of the queue for me is the people who moved here recently, and the app has no way of telling me who those are. So I read what people have written and I look for the ones who explain where they are from, which is a strange filter and it works.
What I want is one ongoing arrangement that runs both ways in time. Planned, not improvised. Not looking for anybody who wants an evening. Not looking to be somebody's return to the scene after a break, which I have been twice.
