What I do puts me in front of a great many people in this city and a decent number of them would recognise me in a queue at the shops. That is not a boast, it is closer to a nuisance, and it decides absolutely everything about how I do this.
No face on the profile. Nothing written that would identify the work. No adding each other anywhere. No exceptions later once we like each other, which is the point at which most people's discretion quietly lapses.
Forty three, the east end, switch, eleven years in, two arrangements and neither of them ever known to anybody outside the two people involved. Both ran for years and both ended without a single awkward moment afterwards, which I think is the actual argument for doing it this way.
What I offer instead is that I will meet early and I will be far more open in person than in writing. I would rather build something across a table than leave a year of evidence behind us.
What I want is an ongoing arrangement, both directions in time, with terms agreed properly and a fixed evening. Not looking for anybody who finds the job interesting. Not looking to be seen out. Not looking for a person who would tell one friend, because one friend is how everything in this city travels.
