I work nights on a security desk and I live with my mother, who I look after. There is no version of my life in which I go somewhere and meet people who know about this. There is no free evening, there is no privacy at home, and there is nobody in my circle I could raise it with. So an app on a phone during a quiet shift is not one option among several. It is the only door there is.
Thirty six, no experience, north of the city, and I have known about this in myself for well over a decade.
What I want first is to ask questions of somebody who has done it. How people find each other. How you say what you want without it sounding like a demand. Whether any of this is possible for somebody with my hours and my responsibilities, or whether I am reading about a life that is not available to me.
I am not asking anybody to solve my situation. I am not going to be able to meet anybody at short notice and probably not in the evening at all. If that rules me out, I understand. And if you are the sort of person who is also up at four for reasons of your own, we might have more in common than either of us expects.
