Three good things ended because somebody's contract ran out
- Looking for
- either somebody staying, or somebody honest about the date
- Experience
- Eight years, three dynamics, all three ended by a relocation.
- Around
- Neukölln, Berlin
Twenty months, fourteen months, two years. Three arrangements, none of which ended because of anything either person did, all of which ended because a job moved somebody to another country. I have spent a lot of time working out whether that is bad luck or a description of the city, and I have concluded it is the city.
Thirty five, Neukölln, submissive, eight years in.
What I have decided to do about it is not to filter people out, which would leave me with nobody. It is to ask for the date at the beginning and then plan around it honestly. If you have eighteen months, we can build something that is genuinely good for eighteen months, and I would rather have that than a year of pretending neither of us can see a calendar.
What I want is real structure while it lasts: standing expectations, a weekly evening, tasks in between, and a conversation about the ending before it arrives rather than during it.
Not looking for anybody who says they will probably stay. Not looking for a person who wants to keep it light because it is temporary, which is exactly backwards. And not looking to do the last month again in silence, because that is the part that actually hurt.
