The translate button turned one of my limits into its opposite
- Looking for
- somebody who will confirm the important things in one shared language
- Experience
- Four years, one dynamic of a year, ended over a misunderstanding.
- Around
- Neukölln, Berlin
I wrote a careful sentence about something I do not want. He read it through the automatic translation, which produced something close to the opposite, and he answered enthusiastically. It took two more messages to work out what had happened and both of us were shaken by how easily it went wrong. Nothing came of it. It could have.
Twenty nine, Neukölln, submissive, four years in, one arrangement of about a year.
Since then I do the important part twice: once in my own language and once in English, both written by me, and I ask people to confirm they have understood in their own words rather than agreeing. It looks laborious. It takes four minutes and it removes the one failure mode on this app that actually frightens me.
What I want is a structured ongoing arrangement. Clear expectations, a weekly rhythm, contact during the week, correction that is spoken.
Not looking for anybody who will let a machine do the reading. Not looking for a person who agrees to things quickly to keep a conversation moving. And if my English sounds blunt to you, that is the language and not my mood, which several people have got wrong.
