My contract ends in fourteen months and I have put that in the first line
- Looking for
- somebody who wants a year properly rather than nothing carefully
- Experience
- Six years, two dynamics, both in other countries.
- Around
- the south, Amsterdam
My contract ends in fourteen months and I have no idea what happens after it. I have put that at the top of my profile, which the app does not really allow for, since a profile is a snapshot and a snapshot cannot say I may not be here next autumn.
Roughly half the people who read it stop there. That is entirely reasonable and I would probably do the same. The other half write back saying they are in exactly the same position, which is the thing nobody tells you about this city: an enormous share of the queue is on somebody else's clock, and everyone is quietly pretending otherwise.
Thirty one, the south, submissive, six years in and both of my dynamics happened somewhere else, in different languages, under different assumptions about how any of this works.
What I want is a year, taken seriously. Standing expectations, a real rhythm, terms written down, and a review at the end where we look at it honestly instead of pretending we did not both know. A year is a long time. Most of what I have had lasted less.
Not looking for anybody who wants to skip the terms because there is a deadline. Not looking to be an interlude. And not looking for a person who says the ending does not matter, because it always matters, and the ones who plan for it end far better than the ones who do not.
