Forty seven, and it is the software that has beaten me, not the subject

Posted as fortyseven_interface, 14 September 2026

Looking for
patience with the mechanics and one honest conversation about the rest
Experience
None. Three months on here and a great many wrong buttons.
Around
the west, Amsterdam

I assumed the difficult part would be admitting what I wanted. It has not been. The difficult part is that I do not understand this software and nobody my age will admit that they do not either. It took me a month to work out that a match is not a message. I have accidentally hidden my own profile twice. I sent the same thing to somebody four times because I could not tell whether it had gone.

Forty seven, the west, divorced four years, and I know what I want in the way you know a word you cannot spell. I have never done any of it and I am not going to pretend otherwise, since it would fall apart in ten minutes.

What I am asking for is patience and a fair amount of explaining, about the practical things as much as the rest. Somebody willing to go slowly, who says what they are doing and why, and who is not disappointed that I arrive with nothing but intent.

I am not fragile. I have raised a family and rebuilt a career after forty.

Not looking for anybody who finds my age remarkable and mentions it. Not looking to be hurried. Not looking for a person who is bored of a beginner's questions, which is fair enough, but say so early.

What to have sorted before you reply

If this one reads like your own head rather than somebody to answer, the tactics can wait. These three all happen before there is a first match to get wrong.
