This board dies for six weeks every summer and I plan around it now
- Looking for
- somebody who will still be answering in the second week of January
- Experience
- Six years, two dynamics, the longer one three years.
- Around
- the north shore, Sydney
Every year, somewhere around the second week of December, the queue here halves and then halves again. Everyone who is left has a last active date from before the holidays. By the middle of January the app is a museum, and by the end of February it is busy again as though nothing happened. I have watched this for six years and I now schedule my whole life around it.
Which is why I am writing in July, indoors, with the heater on and the light gone by half past five. The cold months are when this city is actually reachable. Nobody is away, nobody is at the coast, nobody has a house full of relatives, and a person who answers you in the middle of winter is a person with time.
Forty seven, the north shore, submissive, six years in. Two dynamics that mattered, the longer one three years, ended without drama when he took a job interstate.
What I want is structure that survives the summer. Rules I keep when the person holding them is unreachable for a fortnight. Check ins by message. An arrangement written down clearly enough that a gap in it is not a crisis.
Not looking for anything that only exists when we are in the same room, because a sixth of the year we will not be. Not looking to be picked up again in February as though December never happened. And not looking for somebody who has not yet worked out that this board has a season.
