Twenty three, brand new, and being extremely careful about it
- Looking for
- friendship and conversation with people much further along
- Experience
- None, and I would like the first of it to be unremarkable.
- Around
- Brooklyn, New York
I am twenty three and I have done nothing, and I have decided the most sensible thing I can do this year is talk to people rather than meet them. That is a boring plan. It is also, from everything I have read, the plan that the people who had a bad first year wish they had made.
Brooklyn, sharing a flat with three others, no experience of any kind. What I am aware of is that my profile attracts a specific sort of message. I get a great deal of enthusiasm from people twice my age who are very keen to explain things, and some of that has been genuinely kind, and some of it has had a quality I could not name for months and now can.
So I would like to be friends with people first. Group conversations rather than private ones, in the early stages. Somebody I can ask a question and get an answer that is not shaped by wanting something from me.
What interests me is structure and being accountable to somebody, which is embarrassing to write at my age and true anyway.
Not looking for a mentor who wants exclusivity over what I hear. Not looking for anybody who calls me kid, which has happened twice and both times I closed the conversation. Not looking to meet anybody privately this year, and saying that plainly has already saved me a great deal of time.
