I have been on this app since it arrived here and it has got worse
- Looking for
- somebody who remembers when a conversation lasted more than a week
- Experience
- Sixteen years, four dynamics, three of them found on this app.
- Around
- Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin
I was on it when the local pool was perhaps a few hundred people and everybody more or less recognised everybody. Conversations lasted weeks. Nobody had forty matches because there were not forty people. Three of my four arrangements came out of it, and the app was not better designed then, there were simply fewer of us and less to scroll past.
Forty nine, Prenzlauer Berg, switch, sixteen years in.
What changed is not the software. It is that the queue became effectively infinite, and once the queue is infinite nobody has to resolve anything, so nothing gets resolved. I do not think anybody is behaving worse than they used to. They just have somewhere else to look.
I still use it because it is where the people are. But I run it like it is the old version: a handful of conversations, no stack, and a plain message when something is not going anywhere.
What I want is an arrangement in either direction with structure and a weekly shape. Not looking for volume. Not looking for anybody who is keeping options open indefinitely. And not looking to be nostalgic at length, which I am aware I have just been.
