It took a message on my wrist in a meeting to make me fix this properly

Posted as went_to_my_watch, 1 September 2026

Looking for
somebody unbothered by a phone that is deliberately half asleep
Experience
Seven years, two arrangements, one of them ongoing.
Around
out by the ring, Amsterdam

I had done all the obvious things. App renamed, folder, no previews, sound off. What I had not thought about was that everything on my phone also arrives on my wrist, and one afternoon in a room with eleven colleagues a message appeared on my arm in a font large enough to read from the next chair. Nothing happened. Nobody saw. I spent the rest of that meeting with my sleeve pulled down like somebody in a bad film, and I went home and turned the whole thing off properly.

Thirty nine, out by the ring, switch, seven years in. Two arrangements, one of which is ongoing and takes one evening a fortnight.

I mention it because discretion is usually discussed as a matter of principle and it is almost entirely a matter of settings. The people I know who have been caught out were not careless in any moral sense. They had a device they had forgotten was connected to a device.

What I want is a second arrangement running the other way, with somebody who understands that my phone is deliberately slow and that this is not a comment on them.

Not looking for anybody who needs quick replies. Not looking for a person who wants to be added anywhere. Not looking to explain the settings again.

What to have sorted before you reply

Which direction is on the table this month is not in the post, and asking flat out reads badly. That takes a conversation, and a conversation needs a room you can walk out of.
