Nothing on this app happens in August and I have stopped fighting it
- Looking for
- somebody who will still be here in September
- Experience
- Eight years, two dynamics, both of them started in the autumn.
- Around
- the west, London
Every year I forget and every year I am reminded. The whole city empties, everybody is somewhere else, and conversations that were going perfectly well in July go quiet for a month and then have to be started again from a standing position. I used to take it personally and once ended something over what turned out to be a fortnight in Greece.
Thirty seven, the west, switch, eight years in, two arrangements and both of them begun in October.
So I now do something slightly odd, which is to say at the start that I do not read August. If we are talking and one of us disappears for three weeks, that is the season rather than a verdict, and we pick it up in September without a post mortem.
I am posting now precisely because of that. Anybody reading this in the next few weeks is either still here or will be soon, and I would rather start something that has autumn ahead of it.
What I want is a single arrangement, either direction, with structure: a weekly evening, expectations set out properly, real contact in the days between. Not looking for anybody who needs daily reassurance. Not looking for a conversation that ends the first time somebody takes a week. And not looking to be somebody's project for a summer.
